Trainee

Train with DFS to become an air traffic controller for Germany’s towers, approaches, and en-route centers. You’ll start with 12–16 months of classroom and simulator training at the DFS Academy in Langen, then move into 12–24 months of on-the-job training at an operational unit, coaching with live traffic from day one. The selection pathway includes online testing, two assessment stages in Hamburg (computer/simulation tasks, teamwork exercises, interviews incl. English), and a final aviation medical. If you’re motivated, focused, and thrive in high-responsibility teamwork, this program prepares you for an operational ATCO role across Germany.

Requirements

• General higher-education entrance qualification (Abitur) or a completed Bachelor’s degree (or nearing completion) • Maximum age 24 at the time of application; ability to start training within one year of applying • Strong English skills (English through Abitur or equivalent C1 level) • Pass a multi-stage selection process (online tests; two assessment days in Hamburg with computer/simulation tasks, teamwork, and interviews) • Meet aviation medical fitness standards for ATCOs per EU Commission Regulation 2015/340 (hearing, vision, etc.)
