Train with LVNL (Air Traffic Control the Netherlands) to become an air traffic controller for Dutch civil and military operations. The paid program develops your skills from classroom and simulator modules to unit training that prepares you for tower, approach and en-route environments across the country. Selection consists of six stages (NeurOlympics, FEAST, RADAR, group assessment in Dutch, interview, and an ATC job-sample/ACT), followed by an aviation medical and security clearance. Successful candidates progress into operational roles upon completion of training.
LVNL is the Dutch air navigation service provider responsible for ATC in the Amsterdam Flight Information Region and at major Dutch airports. The organisation operates the Area Control Centre and approach units at Schiphol-Oost and provides tower services at multiple civil airports; it also supports military locations under cooperation agreements. Beyond control services, LVNL provides aeronautical information and CNS services, trains controllers, and invests in modern ATM solutions and digitalisation aligned with European initiatives.
• Education: at least mbo-4, havo, vwo, hbo (or hbo-propedeuse), or wo diploma • Age: minimum 17 and maximum 30 at the start of the selection procedure • Selection pathway: pass six rounds - NeurOlympics (remote), FEAST, RADAR, group assessment (in Dutch), interview, ACT (job sample) - then pass medical exam and security screening before training starts • Personal competencies: stress tolerance, focus, spatial awareness, sense of responsibility and sound decision-making under time pressure
