Job description
Train with EUROCONTROL to become an en-route air traffic controller at the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC). The pathway combines classroom and simulator phases at GATE Aviation Training in Copenhagen with simulator and on-the-job training at MUAC, typically taking about 3–3.5 years to qualification. Training and accommodation in Copenhagen are paid; you also receive a monthly allowance while studying. One to two courses start each year, and the selection process is rigorous to ensure safety and performance.

MUAC is EUROCONTROL’s en-route control centre, uniquely managing cross-border upper airspace for Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and northwest Germany from its site near Maastricht. The centre operates modern ATM systems and pursues innovation and sustainability projects such as free-route airspace, cross-border arrival management and contrail-prevention trials. Controllers work in English within a multinational team.
Requirements
- National of a EUROCONTROL Member State
- Completed secondary education at advanced level (maths included) or nearing completion
- Good command of spoken and written English; other European languages are an advantage
- Younger than 27 when training starts; free from military service obligations at start of training
- Medically fit for ATCO duties (Agency medical assessment)
- Selection steps: online reasoning test → tests & interview at MUAC → medical exam → security clearance; if selected, sign an undertaking to complete training and serve at least four years with the Agency and provide required documents within 30 days.
